I've been having a hard time so far this semester. It seems like the amount of work has doubled and my time has shrunk to half of what it used to be. Sometimes I feel as though I'll never get all of my work done.

In addition to schoolwork (including multiple visits to a nursing home to do medication therapy management), I have the following commitments:
1. TA for the first-year's Pharmacy Systems I class. (This nets me my first unit (of four needed) of Pharmacy elective classes.)
2. Piano (half-hour lessons on Tuesday mornings and 7:45 plus practice at least three times a week).
3. Choir (1-1.5 hours/week on Wednesday nights).
4. Work on every Sunday at Longs (10-4, and when I get home I usually have to force myself to study).

I feel like I can barely watch an episode of anything or read at all this semester, and feel guilty almost every time I do. And writing has basically gone out the window. I really want to work some more on my Jewel Riders fic, but just can't find the time (or when I do find the time, I'm super-exhausted and feel entirely uncreative).

In short, I may be reaching my breaking point. Thank God I'm going to Disneyland for a Pharmacy Seminar after midterms (which are in two weeks!) - it's the only thing that I'm looking forward to at the moment.

I can't believe I've gone two weeks into my 4th semester without posting anything. For shame! :D

Actually, the truth of the matter is that I'm feeling a little overwhelmed at the moment. I knew that Second Year would be a change, but really wasn't prepared for the magnitude of that change. These next three semester will focus more on Pharmaceutical care than last year (which is not a bad thing, but it means a shift in study style). It's more important than ever to daily stay on top of the material now. Something I've never been stellar at.

Also, as one of the second-year co-chairs for the Drug Awareness Committee, I now find myself with extra work in that department. My partner and I have to interview new first-year co-chairs for the DAC, and are trying to put together different programs (through of course, the puppet shows will always be the backbone of our organization). In an effort to update our ancient presentation board (which we use to try and entice the other students to get interested in our organization), I have ordered photos from Snapfish, which I am very eagerly waiting to receive! It's so much wonderfully cheaper when it comes to ordering pictures, and they mail them right to your house (AKA: time saver for me). I'm seriously fed up with trying to print digital pictures at Wal*Mart - it seems as if there's always some problem with the machine/card/USB stick/peoplefailingtousetheirbrains. Seriously, you haven't known true frustration until you've been behind the seriously technically inept trying to use the Kodak machines to print 100 pictures of their great-niece's birthday.

I'm also working weekly at Longs now too - which in case you haven't heard, has been bought out by CVS Pharmacy. I'm surprised that for the most part I find the work rewarding, and getting the paychecks doesn't hurt either. :)

On a non-school note, for anybody who's been wondering what happened to my weight-loss resolution, things are going fairly well. I've lost somewhere around twenty pounds, and certain articles of clothing are actually fitting better now! It's a very nice feeling. ^_^

As far as watching things goes, I just finished the first season of "The Spectacular Spider-Man," which I must admit really charmed me. Maybe that's because I went in with kind of low expectations? I'm not sure, but the characterization was spot-on and really believable. I especially like that Peter's not "locked into" Mary Jane already - he actually has better dynamics with Gwen (love her) and Black Cat at this point (okay, so I've got to admit I love Spider-Man/Black Cat, whether there's romance or not) I'll definitely be buying it when it appears on DVD in stores. Also, it makes me want to watch the 1990s Spider-Man animated series, even if it had the worst CG ever. :)

What the hell? I put in all the forms for direct deposit so that I wouldn't have to deal with going to the bank all the time anymore. My first work check was supposed to be deposited today - so where is it? I am going through mad book withdrawals and need that money to satisfy my cravings.

Understandably upset Ry is understandably upset.

But also~~~

ONLY ONE MORE TEST TO GO BEFORE THE END OF YEAR ONE.

HOPEFULLY

So I was just outbid on three things, all in the last five seconds. And those three items would have finished my Jedi Apprentice book collection too, which makes it worse. For a person like me who has to have the whole collection, it's very distressing to have it near completion and then suddenly snatched away from you (maybe like a marathon runner being tripped and twisting their ankle with the finish line in view).

Grr...sometimes I really hate that side of ebay - it always seems that if I'm not willing to put out exorbitant amount of money I won't win the auction. It's strange because I always see similar auctions that I don't bid on go for (sometimes) much less. I guess it's just the vagaries of the market?

Also, we have finals for our third semester starting tomorrow. @_@ I'm so tired of looking at my laptop I could just die. All I want to do is pass these four tests/classes and just go away for my three-week break. I feel as though I've never needed a break as much as I do now - there's just something about going to school all throughout the summer and realizing that most people your age are enjoying a carefree summer vacation. Thank goodness I'm going away for a few nights too, or else I'd scream.

But yeah, I'm a little miffed with Ebay at the moment.

I feel like I was run over by that last test. It was was 3.5 hours and 25 pages. 25 PAGES!

So I'm (finally) going to see Indy tomorrow after my last midterm, and have been looking forward to it for over two weeks now.

I am also coveting an iPhone right now for some strange reason. Probably because it is shiny.

So I'll stop avoiding my Disease Processes notes now and actually get back to work. Blah. I am so ready to be done with this round of tests.

So this morning when I was washing my hands at the school library, I looked up into the mirror and realized "I have honest-to-goodness DARK CIRCLES under my eyes!" I have always been kind of an insane studier, but this is a new one even for me. I have joked about this before, and even drawn them in once or twice with a charcoal art pencil, but to see yourself looking that haggard is just kind of depressing.

But such is life the week before Midterms. I have been studying with my group for roughly 7-8 hours per day at school (that's AFTER I finish the normal school day), and when I got home I still worked until about 12:30 to 1:00. This week has really taken a toll on me; I'm starting to feel a little sick now too. DO NOT WANT. I seriously don't have the time to be sick right now (didn't I just get over a sickness recently too?)

In other news, I might be getting a permanent internship with Longs, which is very exciting! I sent them my resume and CV last night, and have a telephone interview next Wednesday.

I also start up piano lessons again next week (bad timing, I know), which will be wonderful after going several weeks without. :)

I feel as though I've been running a mental marathon that started back on the 17th of this month, and is only finishing up (sort of) now.

It started with the super-busy weekend that was detailed in my last post. That led into the following crazy week (with new, up-to-date descriptions!)

Monday: Health Poster Project Presentation, which went well. Big relief there. :)

Tuesday and Wednesday: Started work at Longs Drugs for Early Experience rotation hours. I was going to post about these earlier in the week, but was just too tired. After the first day of standing for roughly five hours, my feet felt like someone was pushing hot pins into them. I have since ordered more comfortable shoes to minimize this issue. However, the work itself was very interesting - I learned quite a bit about inputting information into the high-learning-curve Long computer system, filling prescriptions, etc. I even got to mix up some of the liquid medications, which was fun. :D

Thursday: After lab, I came home, registered for classes (getting none of my first-choice sections!) at a Panera Bread while trying to eat dinner, and went to Phantom of the Opera. Which was amazing, as I expected it to be. It was just as wonderful as I remembered from when we went a couple of years back, and now the songs have been running through my head for DAYS. They simply will not go away. (To complicate matters, my family also watched the movie on Saturday night so that Dad could finally understand what was going on in the story, which only further cemented the songs in my brain. XD) However, we got home rather late, and I had school the next day.

Friday: I killed my arm doing six puppet shows in a row. I am also totally in debt to the AMCP folks for helping out and letting out committee people sit a few out to recover. I also missed class to do this, and had to listen to the lecture recordings later.

Saturday & Sunday: Rested during Sabbath, and tried madly to catch up with work during the rest of the time. I also worked from 10-4 at Longs on Sunday, which sucked up most of that day. It was also super slow though, so I had the opportunity to do some research online for school work.

Monday: FINALLY took a short breather and went with the family to see Iron Man. It's seriously one of the best movies I've ever seen. Tony Stark comes off as such a HUMAN character, and his sort-of-relationship/friendship with Pepper Potts is really touching - especially when she gives him the little gift! :) It totally blows the socks off of the X-Men movies. Now I can't wait for the sequel. Also, it had a preview for the new Indy movie, which just made me more and more excited for the time when I can squeeze it into my schedule!

So, the rest of the day has been spent studying.

I have also slept horribly this weekend for unexplained reasons. Blah.

Also, in a scary turn of events, I have started reading Star Wars novels - Heir to the Empire to be exact. This was very unexpected. @_@

Go read Kate Beaton's comics - they'll make you feel better. http://www.katebeaton.com or here on LJ at [livejournal.com profile] beatonna.

I am so dead right now.

This weekend was one of the busiest in recent memory. In addition to going to Graduation for the Health Sciences school (congrats to Courtney on getting her Speech Pathology degree!) - which was ridiculously hot at 102 degrees - we also drove down to Fresno for my Grandmother's 80th Birthday Party. Both were very nice events (though both were very diet-murdering as well!), and I was finally able to meet the majority of the relatives on my Dad's side of the family.

This is a hectic week coming up too.

Today (Monday) we gave the presentation of our health research poster project to a faculty member. All in all, it went well, which was a big relief considering we did the actual research last semester (so I'd forgotten lots of it!).

Tuesday and Wednesday I start working my "Early Experience Hours" at a local Longs Pharmacy. I'm excited and scared all at the same time - I've never actually worked at a community pharmacy, so it shall be a learning experience for me. Expect more updates later in the week.

On Thursday, we're going to see Phantom of the Opera, which I am INSANELY excited about. I haven't really been out much in the last many months, so it'll be wonderful to go to the theatre again after such a long time. Plus, it doesn't hurt that Phantom is one of my absolute favorites! :)

And finally, on Friday, our Drug Awareness Committee is participating in the Children's Awareness Carnival (CAC), doing about six puppet shows in a row, so I expect to be totally drained by the end of Friday (especially after getting home late from Phantom the night before!).

Also, I have been sneaking episodes of Batman Beyond, which I am thoroughly enjoying. For some reason I'm on a total animated Batman kick right now.

And since I've been rather sick for the last couple of weeks, work has stalled on my Jewel Riders fic (posted here at Fanfiction.net. But I have part of the second chapter done, and hope to finish and post it over the upcoming long weekend, which I will totally need to catch up with both sleep and work (and see Iron Man!).

It always feels good to be done with finals, even if I'm usually near death by the end. :) I've gotten grades back from (and passed) three of the five classes - still waiting on the last two, which I don't think will be a problem, but one never knows. I really studied hard for these finals - harder and more in depth than I think I've ever studied for finals before. I have to say I felt better prepared going into this round than I have previously. Now, if only I could motivate myself to really stay on top of all the studying throughout the year - that would be an accomplishment!

As usual, my diet has been hell in the last couple of weeks (too many energy drinks and coffee), along with most of the rest of my life outside of school. Time to try and eat healthy again!

Also the computer is dead again. I dropped it off at the tech office to try and get it updated and have them run the usual tests for corruption and viruses. However, when I went to pick it up after the final, they said it would be ready in about another hour. So, I took off to Borders where I picked up some books (looking for Silvermist and the Ladybug Curse but they only had a beat up copy, so I bought the easy-reader books The Great Fairy Race and The Fairy Berry Bake-off as well as The Rose Bride from the "Once Upon a Time" series).

So when I got back to the tech office, the computer had basically gone into meltdown after they tried to install Service Pack 1. So I am now writing to you from the family computer (joy - no privacy! XD) It should be ready to be picked up on Monday again, and may actually be totally replaced, but that remains to be seen.

But it doesn't really matter because the family and I are gone this weekend to visit my brother anyway. We're going to spend the night tomorrow in San Jose/Santa Cruz and enjoy the ocean and some nice dining and shopping. Should be a fun way to unwind (I of course will take a few books that have lain unfinished these last several weeks!)

I hope to just really relax over this 1.5 week break before the next semester begins (yes, another semester over the summer...x_x). I'd like to write the Fallon/Tamara origin fic for Jewel Riders (unfortunately, the notes are on the dead comp, so I won't be getting them back until Monday afternoon), catch up on my piano, read at least two books, and watch a ton of stuff (both movies and series). I also downloaded the old DOS game "The Legend of Kyrandia." Did any of you ever play that? It was my favorite computer game when I was a kid, and I'm really excited to get to play it again!

Oh, and I'm crossing my fingers that my number doesn't get called in this week for Jury Duty.

It's been a crazy day, to say the least.

I was reading the paper over a quick breakfast this morning before heading out to school (GYUH finals are tomorrow! XD), and what the ad I saw nearly made me spit out my cereal.

Me: "ZOMG PHANTOM IS COMING BACK TO SACRAMENTO...IN MAY!"

Yes, I've been waiting for this for a number of years. I really enjoyed Phantom the first time we saw it, and have always wanted to see it again. But then I realized that May is like only a month away - would there be any tickets?

So I waited all day (and studied with the help of a nasty Rockstar too), and when I got home tonight I ripped open the paper and shoved it at Mom. Needless to say, she was pretty excited too. So now we have 4 tickets for the "preview" show on Thursday, May 22. I'm seriously excited.

Now if only I could be so excited about finals. >_

DO NOT WANT. I can't believe that my computer is messed up again. Upon installing Windows Updates (which I think I shall now live in fear of for the rest of my life), my "Documents" folder seems to have become corrupted. >_< I thought that things would finally run smoothly after the tech people installed not only a new hard drive, but a new motherboard as well! Apparently not. That leaves, what...a software issue? I don't have any non-standard programs on there (hell, I don't even have AIM), so does that leave some kind of fatal flaw in the OS (Vista) itself? Or is it just because I'm cursed enough to end up with a Gateway computer?

But anyway.

I'm excited too because our new IBS-II lecturer is British! Since I love British accents, it makes the class ten times more interesting to listen to.
Other than that, school has ratcheted up a notch on the difficulty scale. Between re-listening to some lectures, labs, quizzes, the poster project, and upcoming Midterms (February 19-22), I've had barely any time for pleasure reading/watching, piano, and sleep (of course).

However, I have been listening to the Pocahontas soundtrack on my drive. I had forgotten just how awesome that music is - and the movie too. It's a truly beautiful and sadly overlooked gem among the Disney canon. I've been dying to re-watch it now, but have no time. Though I'll probably try and work it in somewhere because the desire to see it again is eating me alive...

Oh, and I finally used my eBay gift card from Christmas! I now finally own the complete US release of the Marmalade Boy DVD box sets. It's seriously one of the best romance anime out there (even if it's basically ancient by today's standards). I'm especially happy because I was able to get sets 3 and 4 (both sealed), which are both out of print.

And for some reason I've been in a writing mood too. Not that I'll probably get any writing done in the near future (well, maybe a little if I can actually get myself to sit down and actually start something. But lately I've been writing a little personal retrospective lately on where the seeds were sown and who I developed the ideas with for some of my stories. It's scary just how many of my ideas were born from the creative collaboration between myself and an old friend. ^_^ I miss that collaboration and person very dearly now that they're gone. It was wonderful to have someone to discuss ideas with on a daily basis.

Kyaa! My B&N book order (made using a beautiful Christmas gift card) finally came! I found so many great deals because of their post-Christmas warehouse sale too!

I got:
Talyn by Holly Lisle
Dragon Rider by Cornelia Funke
Children of the Lamp: The Akhenaten Adventure by P.B. Kerr
Edge Chronicles: Beyond the Deepwoods by Paul Stewart and Chris Riddell
Kilala Princess 4 by Rika Tanaka and Nao Kodaka
Disney Fairies: Dulcie's Taste of Magic by Gail Herman
and Tamora Pierce's Trickster's Choice. This was originally supposed to be Sunlight and Shadow from the Once Upon a Time book series, but the book arrived all beat up, so I returned it to the store and decided to wait until the new edition comes out this summer.
But I'm so excited to get this order - it has a lot of stuff I've been wanting to read for a long time. However, I just had to laugh when I realized that out of seven items, only one was marketed for adults. XD Oh well...

School has been hard so far (as expected). I also had to have the motherboard replaced on my laptop since apparently out of the 200+ computers that were given out at the beginning of the year, mine has been one of the consistent "problem children." So hopefully the current "behavioral correction" has fixed it for good. It's a little sad that the people in the tech office know me by name now. Now I have to reinstall Photoshop so that I can finish my drawing too.

We have another group project, too. Geh, I was hoping to be rid of these by this point in my schooling.
I've been having a hard time buckling down and focusing this semester as well (not quite as bad as last semester though!). As usual, most other things look more interesting that schoolwork. :D I've been incredibly tired as well. Between studying the Top 200 Drugs and trying to re-listen to the lectures from several of my classes, I haven't gotten nearly enough sleep (and coffee can only make up for so much!). Probably didn't help that I started the week off with a deficit in my "sleep bank" either.

And ever since [livejournal.com profile] tanz_fanatika has been watching Card Captor Sakura, I've been dying to pull out my episodes and finally finish the series!

Well, my IBS (Integrated Biological Sciences) Midterm was a bitch, even though I've been studying for it for days now. But I expected that. University-level science has never come easy to me, but 102 questions later I'm really considering a deep change in my study methods (aka, don't try to absorb tons of stuff at the last minute). I might even *gasp* have to look into forming a study group (at least to be able to bounce questions regularly off of other people without feeling like TEH STOOPID.

So tomorrow (or I guess it's today by this point...) I have my Pharmacy Calculations and Statistics Midterm, which I'm not too worried about (have aced most of the quizzes), but Wednesday its IPS (Integrated Pharmaceutical Sciences), which gives me great pause. I haven't put nearly the time into that class have I have into IBS (even though they're probably the same difficulty). So JOY, I have about a day to prepare for another hard test. We end on Thursday with the Pharmacy Systems Midterm, which should be alright. Oh, and then I'm going to Borders for a coffee and some serious retail therapy. XD

***POSSIBLE MINOR HEROES SPOILERS IF YOU CONTINUE*** (Not really though)

And WTF Heroes is turning into Star Trek reunion. George Takei, Dominic Keating (from Enterprise), and now Nichelle Nichols too! Are they trying to beat out Gargoyles for most Star Trek Alum guest appearances or something? Oh and I really hope Katie Carr stays with the show. I love her as Peter's new love interest. But I might be slightly biased because I loved her in the the Dinotopia TV-miniseries (the one with Wentworth Miller). I had a little "SQUEE! DINOTOPIA!" moment when I first saw/recognized her on Heroes. Then of course I had to go look up Dinotopia online and found out that a new book is out this month! I'm definitely going to have to add that to my library soon. Those books are worth it almost for the art alone.

Well, I guess I knew it was coming all summer, but I'm still floored. Goodbye (forever!) summer vacation - hello, tons of work. Even after a short starting week, Pharmacy school has managed to dump tons of work on me. And I'm NEVER good about it the first week - but apparently now I have to be. I'll definitely have to be more well organized than I ever have before. We're talking about scheduling things in down to the half-hours. So I'm taking Pharmacy Systems and Experience I, Integrated Pharmaceutical Sciences I, Integrated Biological Sciences I, and Pharmacy Calculations and Statistics. 17 units...gah...

I was nervous about putting my piano lesson at 7:45 am on Tuesdays and being able to get to school by 9 am, but it worked out very well. I actually ended up avoiding major traffic snares and getting to school well ahead of schedule (which is good, because parking is a rare commodity to come by at my school!). Having to get up at 6:00 am sets a good wake-up schedule for the rest of the week, and even gives me a little "hit the snooze" time to play around with on non-piano days. Unfortunately, I probably won't be able to give more than half an hour a day to practice, so progress will probably drop off a little.

Luckily, I was able to spend last Sunday in San Francisco. It was a lovely, overcast day - my favorite. ^_^ Mandi, Beth and I took the BART (Bay Area Rapid Transit, for those who don't know) train into the city, and spent a little time at the Metreon, though the Da Vinci exhibit went unattended due to lack of funds. (Though I wouldn't be opposed to getting back there and taking a look sometime!) After that, we rode the historic streetcars and randomly ended up in the Castro...XD But we eventually found out way down to the fun, touristy Wharf area. And what trip to San Francisco is complete without a ice cream from Ghiradelli Square? Mandi and I both enjoyed Cookie-bottom sundaes, while Beth splurged with a Dark Chocolate Raspberry Sundae - heaven in a cup, I swear. After than we tootled around Cost Plus World Market/Barnes and Noble waiting for Mandi's friend Brian to meet us for dinner at the Fog City Diner. We've always wanted to try it, but forget about it until we drive past it on the way home...>_< The food was classic American (pot roast, mac and cheese, etc.) except served classy (with slightly classy prices as well...XD) Heh...Mandi's Caesar salad did kind of crack us up though - four stacked leaves of romaine (or was it butter?) lettuce... But it was still well worth it - and I'm glad we finally got to go! Luckily, Brian drove us back to the BART station, because my feet were like pounded steaks by the time we got on the train home. Fun times, but definitely tiring.

Last night I went to Best Buy to pick up and 320 gig external hard drive on the cheap, but they closed just as I got there! So to assuage my grief, I went and spent money over at Barnes and Noble...XD Picked up a Star Trek book, two "Once Upon a Time" books (Beauty Sleep and Before Midnight) and an omnibus edition of the first three Magic Knight Rayearth manga (for only $10 - it pays to check the children's bargain area!).

Also, Saturday night saw me finish a book (Tamora Pierce's First Test) in only 6 hours...XD But I am a bibliophile, so what else am I to do on a long car trip if I bring my book light along? (Besides buying a rad mug at Starbucks...>o<)

Heh, I've been meaning to make an update for the last couple of days, but when I have 10-12 hour days of Pharmacy school orientation, it's a little hard to motivate myself to get up and going to write a post when all I really wanted to do at the end of each day was fall into bed and sleep.

Thursday found me at school at roughly 7:50, where I grabbed a cup of coffee and attempted to avoid mingling with my peers. I'm really not the large-group mingling type, but I did have a chance to catch up with Ashley, which was nice. :D Sometimes it amazes me that we've been in school together since 4th Grade...XD

After that, we endured three hours of faculty/staff introductions which, while not bad, were overly lengthy. I mean, nobody's really going to remember all these people and names. I feel fortunate that I can even remember most of the faces. After a quick break, we spent more time with our faculty and student advisers (and having to endure the inevitable icebreakers...-_-). Following that (and a sub-par lunch - I polished off those sandwiches in a couple of bites!) we got the books that we ordered and also had to fill out a myriad of forms. Later that night we listened to a presentation from someone from Longs Drugs and had another sub-par dinner (pasta). When I got home, I read some more in The Realms of the Gods by Tamora Pierce (in a desperate attempt to finish it before Tuesday, when real classes start) and attempted to run through my piano pieces (which was only accomplished through the assistance of a beautiful Diet Coke...XD).

The next morning we had a presentation on the curriculum and internships/rotations, followed by a facilities tour (where I got to see Rachel! It was good to see someone from the Public Library where I used to work - she now works at the Health Sciences Library now too). After a much better lunch, we got our new photo IDs made (I love that it says "Pharmacy Intern" now!) which was a hot and sweaty process because we had to walk over to the main campus in business casual clothes in probably 100 degree weather. Suffice to say I was displeased by the end of that experience.

But next - oh the joy! We were distributed our NEW LAPTOPS. Yes, every entering pharmacy students is the proud "owner" (leaser, in reality) of a beautiful little Gateway tablet PC. I'm already very addicted to it - folding the screen over and surfing the internet just through the screen is really fun. But I'm really excited to try the tablet features with Photoshop. ^_________^

After that, however, we had to complete a few competency assignments with the laptop, which ran overtime and made us get out later.

Anyway, it's been a busy few days. I'm really tired of hearing the words "professional" and "networking" too. I certainly don't feel much more professional than I was before, but I suppose that will come with time. I'm very excited to be starting grad/professional school because it seems to have finally weeded out most of the "dead wood" in college. XD Though I do miss being able to wear my shorts and sandals.
