Happy New Year!

I hope that everyone is on track to have a wonderful 2013. 2012 was a little bit of a bipolar year - I spent most of the first half in a pretty deep funk, only to be finally lifted out of it by Anime Expo mid-year, so I'm definitely hoping I don't lose half a year again. XD If anyone wants to fill out the questions behind the cut on their own, feel free to snatch this! I'd love to read some more!
☆ What did you do in 2013 that you'd never done before?
Participated in NaNoWriMo!
☆ Did you keep your new years resolutions, and will you make more for next year?
Ahaha...I did abysmal at the weight loss thing, but writing went well with my attempt at NaNoWriMo this year!
☆ Did anyone close to you give birth?
Not anyone super close, but I can think of at least one friend who had a kid this year.
☆ Did anyone close to you die?
You know, I think 2012 was remarkably funeral-free.
☆ What countries did you visit?
Can LA county as a different country?
☆ What would you like to have in 2013 that you lacked in 2012?
A piano of some kind. I am seriously out of practice.
☆ What date from 2012 will remain etched upon your memory, and why?
November 1st - the first day of my first NaNoWriMo!
☆ What was your biggest achievement of the year?
NaNo, obviously. 37,000 words in a month is a real record for me.
☆ What was your biggest failure?
Making friends where I live. I really need to to better with that.
☆ Did you suffer illness or injury?
I had a good go-around with some mild depression earlier in the year.
☆ What was the best thing you bought?
It was crazy amazing to see Winx back on store shelves.
☆ Whose behaviour merited celebration?
My Dad - he really stepped up to the plate after Mom broke her leg.
☆ Whose behavior made you appalled and depressed?
The asshole physician of the ICU. It's serious not okay/unprofessional to threaten to beat people up. Just sayin.
☆ Where did most of your money go?
Student loans, though I gave a sizable about to Mattel (Master of the Universe Classics, Monster High), Integrity Toys (Jem), and Jakks Pacific (Winx Club). Right Stuf also pretty much slayed me with their end-of-year anime deals.
☆ What did you get really, really, really excited about?
Going back to Anime Expo for the first time since 2004!
☆ What song will always remind you of 2012?
"Disney Princess Hipsters" - I watched that video on YouTube practically on repeat.
☆ Compared to this time last year, are you:
i. happier or sadder?: happier? I have good writing goals for next year, which will hopefully provide some much needed structure.
ii. thinner or fatter?: fatter. HOLIDAY BINGING.
iii. richer or poorer?: roughly the same.
☆ What do you wish you'd done more of?
Made more human connections. Write more often. Start drawing again. Get to the gym more regularly.
☆ What do you wish you'd done less of?
Wasting time on the internet.
☆ How did you spend Christmas?
I had tickets to see Nutcracker on the 22nd, and after that I had a few days off to spend with the family.
☆ Did you fall in love in 2012?
I fell back in love with writing and fic.
☆ How many one-night stands?
Haha. NONE.
☆ What was your favorite TV programme?
Cartoons: Winx Club S4 and S5, Legend of Korra; Anime: Kids on the Slope, Bunny Drop; Live Action: Sherlock, Merlin
☆ Do you hate anyone now that you didn't hate this time last year?
See above: asshole physician.
☆ What was the best book you read?
I can't say just one, having read so much great stuff this year: but the Avalon: Web of Magic Books 1-12 by Rachel Roberts and Scott Westerfeld's Leviathan and Uglies series all stand out.
☆ What was your greatest musical discovery?
I love the weekly musicals by the AV Byte Brothers on YouTube. They're so fun!
☆ What did you want and get?
Many, many awesome Masters of the Universe Classics figures and Winx dolls.
☆ What did you want and not get?
I was hoping to go to New York at some point this year, but it just never panned out.
☆ What was your favorite film of this year?
The Hobbit! Though Hugo, Avengers, and Wreck-it-Ralph were all great.
☆ What did you do on your birthday, and how old were you?
I turned twenty-seven and spent the weekend in Monterey with my family. We visited the awesome Monterey Bay Aquarium.
☆ What one thing would have made your year immeasurably more satisfying?
Actually seeing progress from the time spent at the gym.
☆ How would you describe your personal fashion concept in 2012?
Business casual. I think I can count the number of times I put on a tie with one hand.
☆ What kept you sane?
Reading, writing, good shows/movies to watch. Talking to my family on the phone/trips to see them.
☆ Which celebrity/public figure did you fancy the most?
The cast of Winx Club!
☆ What political issue stirred you the most?
How disgusted I became at all the vitriol pouring all over Facebook around the election.
☆ Who did you miss?
The family. Being far away from all of them still sucks.
☆ Who was the best new person you met?
I got to meet Peter S. Beagle (author of The Last Unicorn) at AX. He was super nice!
☆ Tell us a valuable life lesson you learned in 2012:
I always thought I really did well with alone time, but even I have my limits.
☆ Quote a song lyric that sums up your year:
"I've had enough of rainy days...my life has just begun I'll be okay!"
In 2013...
☆ Will you be looking for a new job?
Maybe. It really depends on if anything opens up in a better area.
☆ Will you be looking for a new relationship?
Who knows?
☆ New house?
Perhaps. Depends on how long I think I'll stay in Redding.
☆ What will you do different in 2013?
Hopefully get to the gym on a regular basis!
☆ New Years resolution?
To continue my writing. I want to get through a number of fics and work my way through Holly Lisle's "How to Think Sideways."

I finally read and reviewed the Avalon: Web of Magic books for the Jewel Riders comm.
☆ Will you be nicer to the people you care about?
Hopefully. I never try to be mean. :]
☆ Will you dress differently this year than you did in '12?
Hopefully I'll dress better. Losing more weight = new clothing racks opening up.
☆ Will you start or quit drinking?
I'll never drink.
☆ Will you better your relationship with your family?
I hope so. I've thankfully never had a bad relationship with my family, but being away from them most of the time make me feel more kindly toward everyone.
☆ Will you do charity work?
That would be nice. Definitely if the mission trip pans out.
☆ Will you go to bars?
Never.
☆ Will you be nice to people you don't know?
I pretty much ridiculously friendly to people at work. Killing em with kindness.
☆ Do you expect '13 to be a good year for you?
I definitely hope so!
☆ How much did you change from this time last year til now?
Deepening bags under my eyes? I can actually feel a few muscles in my arms?
☆ Do you plan on having a child?
HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA NO.
☆ Will you still be friends with the same people you are friends with now?
I had better be. If we aren't then I'm epic fail at friendships.
