Dear F-list,
I know a lot of you are big readers/media enthusiasts, so I was hoping you might have some suggestions for me.
Namely, what are your favorite (or at least good) Arthurian legend retellings. Or books that use King Arthur, Camelot, etc as a springboard to do their own thing?
Suggestions from any medium are encouraged - books, graphic novels, movies, series, etc.

I have been on this Arthurian kick lately like whoa, even to the point of digging up some really old notes for a story I was writing once upon a time that was a non-traditional prequel of sorts to the traditional legends. Now I really want to do something with it. XD

Many thanks,
Ry

In other news, work today was crazy (as it was my first day back and the new computer systems had been installed in my absence!).

...If I didn't know any better, I'd swear your name was Adam and you went to high school with me.

Ah! Sorry I can't help you out there... the only type of historical fiction I've ever been into reading revolves around The Battle of Hastings, the War of the Roses. And vikings. /strange

Hectic work? Sounds like (eventual) fun!

It's funny - I'm never quite sure whether to put Arthurian stories into the "historical" category or the "myth" category. They're kind of a blend at this point, I think. XD

Haha!! Yeah, I think I've reached a point where if it's based in the past, it's basically become history for me (regardless of whether it actually happened or not X3) *pats brain cells*

yeah, fishing this out of the past

book wise, the Arthor series by A A Attanasio:
The Dragon and the Unicorn
The Eagle and the Sword
The Wolf and the Crown
The Serpent and the Grail

Peter David's trio
Knight Life, One Knight Only, Fall of Knight (I haven't read the third - Fall of Knight - yet, but the other two are good)

animation wise
King Arthur and the Knights of Justice XD I know, I know the name alone doesn't inspire much hope but it's good - http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/King_Arthur_and_the_Knights_of_Justice (hell, it even made me fic it so XD)

Thanks for the recommendations!

And KAKOJ was one of my favorite shows as a kid! Sometimes I think of it as an "older brother" show to PGJR even. Both totally mange Arthurian legend, but are fun as heck!

I think KAKOJ was one of my early fandoms that I played in. I did do some fanart for it and I ficced for it (which reminds me I need to get back to it - I had Tone get cursed. I think that was what triggered me to start cursing male leads XD And *gasp!* it was a vampire and not a werewolf XD)

The first four books I recc'ed are good, not only does it cover Arthur, but it touchs on Kay, Merlin, Uther. There's no Lancelot/Guinevere in it so the fall's a bit different. The second three I recc'ed Gilgamesh appears in the second book, if my memory serves. It's a good series, I just need to get my paws on the third book (mainly to see if it lives up to how good the first two were - King Arthur as Pres, heh) It has a nice pace to it

yeah, I know, fishing this yet again out of the past but I found a new King Arthur book for you

Quest for a king: Searching for the Real King Arthur by Catherine M Andronik. Granted, it's an old book ('89) but it does give good historical information plus it gives a list of other Arthurian sources (fiction and nonfiction works)
