Robots in disguise!
Apr. 30th, 2007 06:32 pmHeh...I've been on a Transformers kick for the last two weeks. I finally finished watching Beast Wars (which I never saw the end of as a kid), and am currently smack in the middle of Beast Machines (which is WAY better than I remember it - because it's a more serial-style story). So now I have to hunt down the original series (gargh...if only the DVDs hadn't gone out of print!). Sometimes I hate myself when Collector ModeTM. >_<
Oh, and I'm still officially still in love with Kaleido Star. This anime is definitely on my top 10 list (not that I know what else populates that list...XD). It's just such a beautiful series (done by Gonzo, so naturally the technical production values are quite good) in both style and substance. The circus performances are very reminiscent of Cirque du Soleil, but are usually based on fairy tales, which gives it extra points in my book. ^_^ I just finished the fifth volume of the second season - only one more to go! Boo-hoo! T_T At least there's the extra feature: "Legend of the Phoenix" to watch after the last volume.
I'm finally coming to the end of the semester, and the work has really started piling up. I almost can't believe I only have 1.5 weeks of regular classes left! (Possibly even the end of my undergraduate study if I get into Pharmacy school!) I have my Anatomy Lab Practical on Wednesday, which is a hearty amount of information to try and process before then. Not to mention a Roman History paper coming due soon. I'm thinking about covering some of the major "scandals" surrounding the Julio-Claudian dynasty, but I'm not set on that yet.
Last Saturday night, I went with a friend to go see the musical program put on by my old high school. It was a combined Lodian Singers/Concert Band program, with the main production being songs from Phantom of the Opera. And they butchered it. Horribly. Except for two of the singers (who were certifiably awesome!) and the Concert Band (which was amazing), the program was rife with singing that was only slightly above mediocre. And I think just by picking different music, this travesty could have been averted. I'm a pretty good singer, and I would never try Phantom. It's hard - it was written for Sarah Brightman, so it's super high. It's not forgiving music for young/untrained voices; Rogers and Hammerstein is much more suited to a wide range of skill levels. The next day, I had to listen to my Original Broadway Cast Phantom Soundtrack to try and erase some of the travesties from the previous night. -_-
