New Year's 2014/2015 Meme
Jan. 1st, 2015 11:16 pm![[personal profile]](https://www.dreamwidth.org/img/silk/identity/user.png)
I seem to have done this questionnaire for several years running now, so it seemed to be the right time to dive back in and reassess! I want to write a proper 2014 Year In Review-style post, so that should be coming soon as well.
☆ What did you do in 2014 that you'd never done before?
Eat poutine in Montreal, write a novel-length story that's not [entirely] fic, attend my ten-year high school reunion.
☆ Did you keep your new years resolutions, and will you make more for next year?
Well, I wrote part of a novel, but I didn't self-pub anything. And Paleo kind of fizzled out after the first half of the year. :\ But I plan on giving both of those another go!
☆ Did anyone close to you give birth?
Yes! One of my very oldest friends gave birth to a daughter.
☆ Did anyone close to you die?
Sadly, yes. We weren't really close anymore, but my beloved high school music teacher passed away just a few weeks ago. :(
☆ What countries did you visit?
Canada! The Northeastern United States! XD
☆ What would you like to have in 2015 that you lacked in 2014?
More time to work on my hobbies, and less overtime at work!
☆ What date from 2014 will remain etched upon your memory, and why?
This year kind of went by in a big blur, so maybe finishing NaNo on Nov. 29th? Or perhaps the days in September when I visited Montreal?
☆ What was your biggest achievement of the year?
Probably finishing NaNoWriMo a second year running.
☆ What was your biggest failure?
Not finishing How to Think Sidways for the second year! Not sticking with Paleo as well as I should have.
☆ Did you suffer illness or injury?
More like extreme exhaustion/continual tiredness.
☆ What was the best thing you bought?
I finally fulfilled my inner 14-year-old's desire to get a Wacom tablet! I haven't hooked it up yet though. XD I've also picked up some really cool Jewel Riders merchandise this year like scripts and pre-production figures
☆ Whose behaviour merited celebration?
My coworkers for bearing through being super understaffed for six months.
☆ Whose behavior made you appalled and depressed?
The management at work for leaving us understaffed for six months.
☆ Where did most of your money go?
I'm going to say figures and other toys, but also a couple of nice trips like Anime Expo and New England/Montreal.
☆ What did you get really, really, really excited about?
It was really amazing to finally see behind-the-scenes stuff like the Series Bible and Style Guide for Jewel Riders.
☆ What song will always remind you of 2013?
Not sure if one song in particular...but I listed to tons of Oz-related music like the Return to Oz soundtrack and the 2011 Wizard of Oz West End soundtrack during November.
☆ Compared to this time last year, are you:
i. happier or sadder?: sadder? All the overtime I worked made for nice paychecks, but little time to engage in productive hobbies, and led to way more consumptive hobby engagement than I had desired for this year.
ii. thinner or fatter?: perhaps a little thinner - my earlier Paleo endeavor holds on a little still
iii. richer or poorer?: poorer (way too many toys)
☆ What do you wish you'd done more of?
Write more often. Start drawing again. Get to the gym more regularly.
☆ What do you wish you'd done less of?
Wasting time on the internet. Buying toys.
☆ How did you spend Christmas?
I had off December 23-25, but ended up spending most of the 25th driving back to Redding to work the next day.
☆ Did you fall in love in 2014?
I learned a powerful lesson in self-love and learning to not hate yourself.
☆ How many one-night stands?
Haha. NONE.
☆ What was your favorite TV programme?
Well, I did binge my way through all of Battlestar Galactica in a few weeks!
☆ Do you hate anyone now that you didn't hate this time last year?
Not really.
☆ What was the best book you read?
Probably After the Golden Age by Carrie Vaughn, though The Selection (and its two sequels) by Kiera Cass were a suuuper fun guilty pleasure. I also really enjoyed reading The Neverending Story by Michael Ende.
☆ What was your greatest musical discovery?
I'm totally in love in PTX (Pentatonix!)
☆ What did you want and get?
A Kindle Paperwhite!
☆ What did you want and not get?
To finally publish something on Amazon.
☆ What was your favorite film of this year?
I'm going to cheat a put a three-way tie between Captain America: Winter Soldier, How to Train Your Dragon 2, and Big Hero 6.
☆ What did you do on your birthday, and how old were you?
Woooorked. 29 on the 29th of October.
☆ What one thing would have made your year immeasurably more satisfying?
Getting my personal author website off the ground and actually publishing something.
☆ How would you describe your personal fashion concept in 2013?
Business casual + jeans?
☆ What kept you sane?
Reading, writing, good shows/movies to watch. Talking to my family on the phone/trips to see them.
☆ Which celebrity/public figure did you fancy the most?
Ozma of Oz
☆ What political issue stirred you the most?
Gay Marriage. People need to get over themselves and remember that equality is for everyone.
☆ Who did you miss?
The family. Being far away from all of them still sucks.
☆ Who was the best new person you met?
Maybe my new coworker Alicia? It's nice to have another anime and meme-loving artistic nerd in the pharmacy.
☆ Tell us a valuable life lesson you learned in 2014:
You can't be anything except what you are. I know that sounds non-aspirational, but it was a huge discovery for me this year.
☆ Quote a song lyric that sums up your year:
They told you everything was waiting for you,
They told you everything was set in stone,
But now you're feeling like a different ending,
Sometimes you gotta find it on your own.
It's an open book,
A road in reverse,
A brand new hook,
Forget that curse!
It's a Rebel cause,
With a Royal heart,
Rewrite, ignite, restart!
'Cause it's your life,
It's your time,
Go forward or rewind!
[Gods, I love the Ever After High theme song!]
In 2015...
☆ Will you be looking for a new job?
I hope so. It really depends on if anything opens up in a better area, but I'm pretty done with my current job.
☆ Will you be looking for a new relationship?
Who knows?
☆ New house?
Perhaps. Depends on how long I think I'll stay in Redding.
☆ What will you do different in 2014?
Hopefully get to the gym on a regular basis and make writing a regular thing!
☆ New Years resolution?
To continue my writing. I want to work my way through Holly Lisle's "How to Think Sideways" and self-publish at least one thing per quarter by year's end.
☆ What will you not be doing in 2014?
Hopefully buying as many toys. I'm feeling something close to total burnout in that corner.
☆ Any trips planned?
Nothing for sure, but I'd like to visit Anime Expo again next year, and perhaps Japan Expo if the stars align.
☆ Wedding plans?
Certainly not that I'm aware of!
☆ What's on your calendar?
Publishing something (probably a flash fiction collection) by the end of the first quarter. Launching a special Jewel Riders project
☆ What can't you wait for?
To take a few weeks off! XD
☆ What would you like to see happen different?
See my family and friends more often. Get out more in Redding. Publish.
☆ What about yourself will you be changing?
Hopefully my weight. (Restarting Paleo in January!)
☆ What happened in '14 that you didn't think would ever happen?
Completing NaNoWriMo a second year in a row.
☆ Will you be nicer to the people you care about?
Hopefully. I never try to be mean. :]
☆ Will you dress differently this year than you did in '13?
Hopefully I'll dress better. Losing more weight = new clothing racks opening up.
☆ Will you start or quit drinking?
Drinking has never really been my thing.
☆ Will you better your relationship with your family?
I hope so. I hope for more honesty between us.
☆ Will you do charity work?
That would be nice.
☆ Will you go to bars?
Unlikely.
☆ Will you be nice to people you don't know?
I'm pretty much ridiculously friendly to people at work. Killing em with kindness.
☆ Do you expect '15 to be a good year for you?
I definitely hope so!
☆ How much did you change from this time last year til now?
Deepening bags under my eyes? I can actually feel a few muscles in my arms?
☆ Do you plan on having a child?
HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA NO.
☆ Will you still be friends with the same people you are friends with now?
I had better be. If we aren't then I'm epic fail at friendships.
☆ Major lifestyle changes?
Perhaps? Moving out of Redding could hopefully constitute one of those...
☆ Will you be moving?
That one's pretty much totally up in the air. But see above.
☆ What will you make sure doesn't happen in '15 that happened in '14?
Allowing my hard-won dietary changes to slip away again.
☆ What are your New Years Eve plans?
I work New Year's eve and day.
☆ Will you have someone to kiss at midnight?
Yeah no.
☆ One wish for '15?
That I can channel some of the energy that I have put into consumptive hobbies into more productive/creative endeavors. I took some good steps toward that in '14, but it needs to ramp up. :)
