Stella is basically the 2000s version of Gwen, which is probably why I like her so much. A bit snippy, a bit prideful, but with a huge heart and love for her friends. She's a fab character.

12. Turned-On Character with Dark Wing [and Ilona cameo]

“I would mate with you,” Dark Wing said as Ilona opened her front door. He was holding out some kind of dead reptile as a sort of...offering? Peace token? Gesture of love?

Ilona blinked, then rapidly closed the door. She slumped down in her entryway and pinched the bridge of her nose. This was the bloody fourth time in as many hours he had asked that question. “And I said no. Look, is Z’neth at home upstairs? I’d really like to talk with him,” she said through the speaker that connected her to the front of her quarters.

“But The Voice is in full agreement!” Dark Wing replied. “I have even brought a traditional food gift as is your custom!” Ilona could see him waving the dead reptile through the video monitor hookup.

“The only way I would eat that is if I was starving, and maybe not even then!” Ilona squealed as Dark Wing held the dead thing’s face up to the video monitor.

“But it is tradition in your human world to offer gifts and food to those you would mate with,” Dark Wing said, sounding pitiful despite how annoying he was being. “What have I done wrong?”

Ilona sighed, and before she could think better of what could be a very rash decision, she opened the door. “Look, Dark Wing, it’s...flattering that you think so highly of me…” she began.

“I do, I do!” he chirped, moving toward her, his face radiating happiness now that she had opened the door again.

Ilona held up her hands. “Not another step forward, buster, or I’m calling a D3 alert!”

“But how shall we mate if not in your nest? Would you like to do it here?” he asked, gesturing to the busy boulevard that Ilona’s quarters were on.

Ilona could feel her face burning as every pair of eyes strolling down the street gawked at the ridiculous scene. “No, we are NOT mating, here or anywhere else! Who told you this was a good idea? Was it Peak? Because that kid is going to get a painful injection from me if I find out he put you up to this!” she yelled.

“Nay, it was The Voice!” Dark Wing said. “He does not say so directly, but I can tell he is in full agreement about mating with you!”

Ilona groaned. “Go home, Dark Wing. Back to your quarters, please?” she pleaded. “I’d like to forget this...incident ever happened.”

Dark Wing sighed, but gave Ilona a very formal bow. “Though you do not reciprocate my feelings, violet hair, I shall not be swayed in my quest.”

Despite everything - the mutation, the split personality, the almost-choking-her-that-one-time - the weirdly formal Dark Wing was starting to grow on her. Not that she’d tell anyone. Amber gods forbid Peak found out and began mercilessly teasing her, after all.

Still, she thought it must be because Dark Wing wore her true beloved’s skin, and she knew that somewhere deep inside Z’neth was still there. Dark Wing obviously thought the dragonator was still inside him. The Voice could be none other, after all.

So Ilona decided she would work on this puzzle box problem. “Dark Wing, I may not want to mate with you, but it doesn’t mean we can’t be friends. Why don’t we start there?” she asked, extending a hand.

Dark Wing gingerly accepted Ilona’s proffered hand. “I would like that very much, violet hair,” he said.

Ilona only hoped she wasn’t grabbing for more ambers than she could carry.

Bwahahaha! Poor Ilona XDXD You totally captured her. The almost strangle reference, a tiny nod to Beast'verse? And do I even want to know where he got the lizard?

That was awesome, Ry. And I love his calling her violet hair (gives it an Ian/Gwen vibe ;))

14. On-His/Her-Knees Character - Dark Wing/Ilona (Dragon Flyz) strongheartmaid

“When you said you’d get down on your knees, I’m not sure this is what either of us had in mind,” Ilona said dryly as the F.I.S.T. Fighters trussed up both her and Dark Wing to large iron poles at the edge of the lava river.

“Truly, violet hair, this is not what I intended for a pleasant specimen collection trip,” Dark Wing said. Nearby, Riptor gave a great roar as the F.I.S.T. Fighters crisscrossed the blue dragon with a multitude of ropes and vines, binding him to the ground.

The leader of the F.I.S.T. Fighters stood before them and yelled, “For trespassing on our land and trying to steal our amber crystals, you have angered the amber gods! Therefore, as we are commanded in the sacred texts, you shall be sacrificed to the great river beast to appease the amber gods and shield us from their anger.”

“Listen, this is all just a big mistake,” Ilona said, trying to reason with the irritating little twat. “We didn’t even know you lived here - we were just collecting plant specimens. We’re not here to steal your ambers!”

“Silence! No more of your lies!” the leader said, shaking his staff close to Ilona’s face.

“Get. Away. From. Her.” Dark Wing’s voice was low and dangerous.

The leader of the F.I.S.T. Fighters sneered. “And what will you do from your position, oh treacherous mutant?”

Ilona looked up, surprised that the miniscule human recognized what mutants were. “Do you mean to say…”

“Oh yes, large female, your prodigious size brands both of you mutants. No humans are of such a colossal size!” the leader said.

“I beg your pardon,” Ilona said, “But I am no mutant you little twerp!”

The leader was about to respond, but at that moment Dark Wing gave a great yell flexed his arms. Ilona could see the veins clearly as the man’s arms stretched outward. With a final yell, the bonds that had been securing the mutant’s arms broke with a great snap.

He stalked over to the leader and picked him up by his neck, holding him out over the lava river. “Insult violet hair again and you will enjoy the lava beast’s belly as your new home,” he snarled.

“Eh-HEM,” Ilona said, trying to get the mutant’s attention. “Please do avoid murdering the first humans we’ve encountered in hundreds of years, Dark Wing.”

(stopping there for now before I rewrite the whole episode)

Hee, I loved it but then Dark Wing is a favorite :) I love the interaction between the pair. (And what did he originally have planned since the FIST Fighters weren't in the equation?)
