Belated New Year's meme
Jan. 3rd, 2008 09:06 pmIt's hard to believe that it's already 2008! I must say, I've been rather absent for the majority of December, though I have tried to keep up with reading everyone else's journals!
December was a busy month. It saw me finish my first semester of Pharmacy school (only seven more to go!) and pass, take an awesome trip down to Disneyland to see the awe-inspiring Christmas decorations, make a first visit to the University Symphony, visit the amazing Da Vinci Exhibit at the Metreon, and of course enjoy Christmas with family.
1. What did you do in 2007 that you'd never done before?
Started graduate school. Got food poisoning.
2. Did you keep your New Year's Resolutions, and will you make more for next year?
I inevitably forget what resolution I made last year. Hell, I can’t even remember what I had for breakfast. But I have made a resolution to try and be more focused (which is already failing because I’m doing this instead of my school work).
3. Did anyone close to you give birth?
Nope.
4. Did anyone close to you die?
Again, no. I was lucky this year.
5. What countries did you visit?
The magical kingdom of Disneyland. ^_~
6. What would you like to have in 2008 that you lacked in 2007?
More money, an internship, and a renewed sense of purpose.
7. What date from 2007 will remain etched upon your memory, and why?
Probably the day I started Pharmacy School, or maybe the White Coat Ceremony.
8. What was your biggest achievement of the year?
Aside from getting into grad school, probably getting the Co-Chair position for the Drug Awareness Committee.
9. What was your biggest failure?
Being too isolationist.
10. Did you suffer illness or injury?
Brain injury. XD And of course throwing up my guts for 12 hours.
11. What was the best thing you bought?
I can't possibly narrow it down to one, but my complete set of Hana Yori Dango DVDs is pretty damn near the top.
12. Whose behavior merited celebration?
My brother’s. He’s proving himself to be a responsible adult. ;D
13. Whose behavior made you appalled and depressed?
Some people from school.
14. Where did most of your money go?
Books that I really have no time to read.
15. What did you get really, really, really excited about?
All the great summer movies. And returning to music after a lengthy absence.
16. What song will always remind you of 2007?
Rachmaninoff’s Second Piano Concerto.
17. Compared to this time last year, are you . . .
happier or hardened? Depends on where I am at the time. School=hardened. Piano/Choir=happier.
thinner or fatter? Probably about the same. A diet of coffee, apples, and pretzels will do that to a person. However, after Christmas all bets are off.
richer or poorer? No job=poorhouse.
18. What do you wish you'd done more of?
Writing/drawing.
19. What do you wish you'd done less of?
Wasting time on the internet.
20. How will you be spending Christmas?
With family.
21. Did you fall in love in 2007?
With music.
22. How many one-night stands?
None – not really my thing.
23. What was your favorite TV program?
Heroes, unless you count all the stuff on DVD. And Winx.
23.5 What was your favorite anime?
Definitely Nodame Cantabile. Though La Corda d'oro comes in at a close second.
24. Do you hate anyone now that you didn't this time last year?
Nobody that I can think of, though a couple of people have come close.
25. What was the best book/fanfic you read?
HP7, A Series of Unfortunate Events, Tamora Pierce’s Protector of the Small quartet, Garth Nix’s Abhorsen trilogy, and lots of Christine Morgan’s Gargoyles fanfiction.
25.5 What about favorite manga?
NANA, xxxHolic, and Tsubasa take a clean sweep of this category.
26. What was your greatest musical discovery?
A great “rediscovery” of classical music thanks to watching Nodame Cantabile and La Corda d'oro.
27. What did you want and get?
Admission to grad school.
28. What did you want and not get?
A non-Gateway laptop.
29. What was your favorite film?
Enchanted. Though Ratatouille comes in a close second. But I also loved all the great superhero/action movies from this summer as well. And surprisingly, August Rush came in as an end-of-year favorite too.
30. What did you do on your birthday, and how old were you?
Go to school, and 22.
31. What's one thing that would have made your year immeasurably more satisfying?
Faster progression on the piano/more time to practice.
32. How would you describe your personal fashion concept in 2007?
Business Casual, Sweaters, Hair Putty
33. What kept you sane?
LJ, anime/cartoons, adding hordes of items to my Amazon Wishlist, drawing on the computer, practicing piano, and singing in choir.
34. Which celebrity/public figure did you fancy the most?
Hmm..probably Amy Adams and James Marsden after seeing Enchanted. They’re just too awesome!
35. What political issue stirred you the most?
I’m not really too into politics, but it’s interesting to see what will happen with the Writer’s Strike.
36. Who do you miss?
John. It was so good to finally see him again this year!
37. Who was the best new person you met?
I can’t narrow it down. I’ve met a plethora of interesting/amazing people at school this year.
38. Tell us a valuable life lesson you learned in 2007:
Coffee: it keeps you from faceplanting onto the keyboard.
39. Quote a song lyric that sums up your year:
Oh look! This is the part where I admit I listen to music largely devoid of words. But if it has words, it's often in Gaelic/Japanese/Latin/anylanguageotherthanenglish. But maybe Giselle's "Happy Working Song" from Enchanted, since I did tons of room organizing/cleaning this year.
I've realized that, all said and done, I've taken in a great deal of fantastic media this year. However, I believe that in the end, my theme of the year was "Music." So many of the things I enjoyed this year had musical roots that I can't ignore the interesting correlation.
