Winx Love

Catching up with the first eight episodes of season six, I've fallen in love with Winx Club all over again.  It's funny, I'll go through these periods where I don't think about the series at all and feel like it doesn't mean much to me anymore, but then I'll watch a few new episodes and everything "Blooms" Haha, I went there back to life again.

Random thoughts on the new material:

• I still love Daphne.  I always loved her as a non-corporeal being, and was delighted by her heavy inclusion in S5.  I was overjoyed when she became corporeal again at the end of the season, but I was worried how they would incorporate her into S6.  She isn't really a Winx (having lived, y'know, sixteen (eighteen?  twenty?) years as a ghost nymph), but having her as a teacher/mentor to the girls is working really well.  Her not-quite-romance with Thoren is cute, too.  But if she can barely walk with accidents, I'm not sure she's ready for romance. :\


• Speaking of Thoren, it's great to not one, but TWO new guy characters!  Thoren and Nex have been enjoyable additions so far.  I'm not sure how I feel about the Aisha/Nex/Roy love triangle yet, though.


• However, I'm not delighted that the Specialists have gotten basically no screen time aside from the tiny bit of their training on Linphea.  Seriously, have Brandon, Helia, Riven, or Timmy even gotten any lines yet this season?


• New Specialist/Paladin uniforms!  These are awesome, but I kind of find myself missing the old uniforms?  The original Red Fountain uniforms were a great design, but I'm still glad the boys got a uniform update after like eight different ones for the girls.


• Speaking of new transformations, Bloomix is absolutely gorgeous.  To me, it combines the best parts of Believix and Sirenix, with a little bit of the glamorous nature of Enchantix thrown in for added sparkle.  I'll be sad when the outfits change to Mythix.


• New standard Trix outfits!  True that we had Dark Sirenix and Disenchantix in previous seasons, but this is the first time their really basic look has changed.  Icy's hair is ridiculous/horrible though.


• Also, it's fantastic to see the Trix as powerful villainesses in their own right again.  But where did this new surge of power come from exactly?


• Selina was kind of boring me until they introduced Acheron inside the Legendarium and the fact that she and Bloom knew each other as kids!  (Also, can I say how fun it was that they included that little flashback where Bloom was wearing her S1 outfit?)


• Ugh, Diaspro is back.  Granted, she's actually aligned with the Trix now, but she's a tired character at this point.  Especially after her misuse in S5.


• Oooh, so there are many magical schools we'll be visiting this season?  Here's hoping we get to see Beta!


• Flora's sister Miele (I swear, I'll always think of her as Rose!) is totally adorable in her fairy outfit.  I hope she comes back at some point and befriends Roxy or something.


• What's the deal with replacing Tune and Digit with Cara and Cherie in the Pixie roster and then acting like nothing's different?  I realize they're trying to promote Pop Pixie and all that, but dude, don't mess with canon like that.  Still, slightly older Piff is adorable and they Pixies are actually helping somewhat in fights now?


• Err, we're back on Earth for at least a short time.  I'm not really liking that direction, considering the last time a season was set on Earth it was my least favorite season.  Here's hoping for continuity at least with the Earth Fairies while the Winx search for the Fairy Godmother who wrote about the Legendarium.

I'm so curious where things will go from here.  Here's hoping Nick gets their act together and airs the rest of S6 soon.

Also, are we getting any Jakks dolls in the US for S6?  If not, I'm going to go bankrupt importing the Italian Bloomix designs.

And also, I may have just bought a few more of the old Giochi dolls.  I found a seller in the US who had several of them for a really good price and just couldn't stop myself. XD

I still haven't watched the two newest eps. They've been sitting on my DVR since they aired. I think after all these years, I'm finally done with my Winx summarizing. I just can't bring myself to write the one for the ep where Bloom gets her Bloomix. It's a pain to haul my laptop in front of the TV, because Nick rarely puts the new eps online anymore. And I haven't made time to watch these new episodes. Which is actually odd, considering the Bloomix transformation is the best ever, the Trix look amazing, I like Selina, etc. I think I'm just tired of Nick waiting so long between episodes. I dunno. Writing about it now is interesting me a little, so maybe I'll change my mind.

As far as I know, there will be Bloomix and Mythix dolls from Jakks, though I won't believe anything is final until I see them. There are crappy prototype photos floating around, I believe.

I think I know the Giochi seller you're talking about. I got my Eveningwear Tecna from them. Which ones did you buy?

Watching through Nick online was my favorite way to watch, because I was at least supporting the show through the network that airs it. But nothing past episode four has been put up there.

That's too bad about your summaries! I've always loved reading them, but I can understand that with the long times between episodes and the amount of work involved, it's really easy to lose momentum with the show these days.

I picked up Bloom, Tecna, Musa and Stella from this Wave Two (?) casual line. The one where Tecna and Musa are wearing color swaps of their S3 casual outfits (Tecna's got yellow instead of lavender and Musa has pink instead of teal).

Oh, yeah! I saw that they had those. I was disappointed they had the entire Eveningwear line except for Flora. She was the other one I wanted aside from Tecna. (Already had Musa.)

Yeah, Flora and Aisha from the second casual line are just their regular S3 casuals, and since I have those outfits like twice already, they were easy to pass up.

I looove not paying Italian shipping prices either. It makes picking them up so much more palatable!

I've been watching on Hulu Plus, they have the latest seven or eight eps legally. Netflix has the first two seasons Rai dub, but the quality is pretty bad.

I'll try them but there just seems to be this big disconnect. The last few times I watched Winx, I found myself mentally tearing the episodes apart and getting distracted by either character stupidity or outright plot holes.

Gah, super busy! Work has kind of been throwing me under the bus with terrible scheduling lately. I've been trying to work my way through some interesting writing lessons I bought ages ago, but I always feel too tired to really give it the proper effort. :\

Paleo eating and personal training as been going fantastic, however. I'm down like 20 lbs since January and feeling a lot better in that regard!

Writing's been on and off and I'm thinking of joining a gym myself.

I definitely recommend joining a gym. It's funny - I often feel like I'm too tired to exercise, but when I do I actually end up having more energy. It's kind of a weird paradox.

Associate in Art's. I wanted to do something in writing, but all the courses my local colleges offer basically translate straight to journalism or commercial reporting. Bleh.

Heh, I will soon! If nothing else, it's another reason to get out of the house. I've been going a little stir crazy lately.

Yeah, I wanted to write was well, but one of the reasons I ended up not pursuing an English degree was because everything in my school in that area fed into teaching. Which I had almost no desire to get into (except perhaps college level, but that requires people smarter than me!)

If it was something for a comedy/sci-fi tabloid, like The World Weekly News, I wouldn't mind it. But real newspaper reporting feels too cut and dry for me so, yeah...

Yeah, Winx has had totally spotty airing schedules ever since Nick finished airing their dubs of the third and fourth seasons. S5 was good (sorta?), but it took forever to finish up.

I think the series is probably suffering from a bit of series fatigue/rot at this point. That and the fact that the writers have no flipping clue how to use continuity to their advantage. Winx could be amazing with continuity done right and things not being dropped without explanation after 1-2 seasons.

Still, I love that show.

And agreed! Continuity would be wonderful [for example: Nabu! With him dying and randomly appearing at the party? Um..? And the whole thing with Diaspro. And Chimera. And the Pixies...]

I actually joined LJ for Jewel Riders, but Winx was the reason I stayed. :)

How much of the show did you end up watching? I know when we RP'd only up through S3 was out yet. S4-S6 have a different flavor from the first three seasons (S4 especially), but I definitely think they're worth a look if you find yourself with the time. :)

Oh, the RP- those were good days! I really, really enjoyed them. It's a pity it died out! But tbh none of us probably have the time to pick up up at that pace again anyway right now, given our busy schedules.

Winx appeals to me for all the same reasons JR does: ficbait, prettysparklyness, magic, storylines that could be improved upon, and lots of great settings.

Anyone looking for a Winx news-and-stuff site, I like this blog for talking about the show both good and bad. I liked the Winx lj community better, but time and interest move on.

(I shall write a book called Who Moved My Fandom, for all people who have found their Cheese but need a little more nerdery in their life.)
